I highly doubt it actually will be, though. For one, a democratic (or semi-democratic, as the case may be) government almost never has the balls to do something like this. This type of decisive and absolute action almost requires an established dictator, which, obviously and for good reason, the US is not going to have in the near future.

Also, wouldn't this seem to be a total abandonment (as opposed to the partial abandonment represented by the bailout "loans") of capitalistic priciples? Capitalism is almost like another religion in the US. It takes more than deniable impending doom for most to abandon their religion.

Ironically, this seems like something that Cuba would be far more likely to do than the US, imo.VGnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5843688607135360107.post-3391653593584854982009-06-02T14:27:02.172-07:002009-06-02T14:27:02.172-07:00Good point. It is one of those chicken and egg things. Do car companies build what people want, or are peoples decisions on what to buy dictated by car companies? Not sure where I fall.

GM sold the Hummer brand to a Chinese company today. Amazing.Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07273853131778107163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5843688607135360107.post-72172693733715027452009-06-02T14:22:04.056-07:002009-06-02T14:22:04.056-07:00>It refused to build automobiles that the publi...>It refused to build automobiles that the public wanted.

Well, yes and no.

GM got fat building those giant gas hogs (ie, Hummers and SUVs) that the public DID want. They certainly had too many SUV eggs in their basket.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
