The Gyre As It Looks On Midway

I am so saddened by this gyre in the Pacific, that I could not sleep last night. Today is Thanksgiving, and I will probably bring lots of my friends down today as I tell them about this, today of all days. Why don't we be thankful that we still have brains enough to notice how horrible this is, to talk about it together today, and all the next days act upon it, stop the use of plastic, put our heads together and hearts too, and find the right solutions?

I can't watch this or talk abt it w/out crying. I was recently asked if it's OK to use the plastic grocery bags as long as we recycle them. My answer was definitely recycle thm if you must use thm but the more we use them the more will be made and I assume plastic recycles to more plastic and THAT may end up as other types of plastic ...like the bottles, etc. Are you privy to WHAT gets recycled INTO WHAT? Good job on Thanksgiving!

Wow. Only one comment so far? This should make you angry. This should make you change your lifestyle and think about sustainability as we want more, want it faster, want it cheaper and could care less if it broke tomorrow. Plastic kills so many seabirds, whales, sharks and reef fish. The plastic components are getting more concentrated in our drinking water. The incidence of cancer has jumped in the last 20 years. People are smoking less, but dying more. We don't take health seriously, and expect medications will make up for many years of poor nutrition and lack of exercise. Make better choices about food, and live a longer, healthier life. Support local sustainable farmers. Change is good. Happy Holi....Merry Christmas!
