MIT Students Create Printable Solar Panels

I've always said that technology alone won't save us but that it will be part of the solution.  Well here's an amazing example.  Solar panels that can essentially be printed up and used to generate power.  Brilliant.

The main benefit of solar energy is that it is environmentally friendly. Compared to fossil fuels which release greenhouses gases, carcinogens and carbon dioxide, solar cells don't release anything into the air.

An extra benefit to adding a solar system to your home apart from the considerable reduction in fuel bills, is it also improves the efficiency of your existing boiler and extends it's life too.

This is incredibly impressive and just shows what can be achieved through research and development. The government should be helping solar pv installers to invest in further research and testing to develop this technology. Being able to use ordinary paper over glass could revolutionise the entire energy industry and push us towards renewable and clean energy.

wow that's really cool, but since it's so little, what would you use it for a source of energy?

I think it's more about a breakthrough in the way that these panels can be made. If you take the large manufacturing aspect out of the equation it makes solar much more portable and usable.

This makes me wonder how long it will be until we could have solar cells just about anywhere.
