I think you can recycle the metallic wrapper.

From what i understand materials wise you may be able to, but it'd probably fall through the machinery and be swept into the trash. Practicality versus ability i guess. I;''m meeting with a recycling expert at the end of the year and will see.

If you want a good way to recycle corks here's one way. And I know a lot of people use them for crafty purposes too.
This is an outrageous example of waste. There is no reason to drink wine when water will suffice.
