I've never really understood wrapping paper. You pay through the nose for something that someone is going to rip apart and throw away after one use. It's kind of nuts. Thankfully, the Japanese have had a great alternative for centuries, Furoshiki!

Zero Waste is a worldwide movement and this Japanese alternative packaging is a winner. I intend to wrap all future gifts without waste.
Cool. We just went to the thrift store and picked up about 20 scarves (@ .50 a piece). We're doing all our wrapping that way and our girls (4 &6) will probably have tough time deciding if they like their presents more or the scarves!

Just wondering where to find scarves that size for a reasonable price...I love this idea and want to use it for all kinds of gifts...but where do you find big scarves like that?

I tried some local thrift stores and fond a bunch. IF you can't find any there, you can always cal around to a fabric store, ask tell them what you are doing, and ask them if they have any remnants or leftover bolts. They usually have all sorts f stuff laying around and will most likely give them to you for cheap.

I have just done my first Furoshiki wrap of a Christmas present for a friend and family. Is is so easy to do, no messing with sellotape.
The only difficulty was finding a suitably large and square piece of material. A headscarf was fine for the job.
